Ashanti Martinez is lifelong Prince Georgian and proud Parkdale High School graduate. At the 2013 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference, he was on a Youth Panel discussing the importance of Black Leadership.  During his senior year of High School because of the lack of LGBTQ leadership in Prince George’s County, Ashanti created the LGBTQ Student Liaison for the Prince George’s County Regional Association of Student Governments (PGRASG).

His service extents broader than his local community, in 2012 he spent the summer in Panama providing service to the less fortunate. in 2014 he was the recipient of The Prince George’s Harlem Remembrance Foundation L.O.V.E. Award on Excellence in Service and the Kiwanis Club of Prince George's County Civics Award. He's had the privilege to intern in the D.C. office of Congressman Elijah E. Cummings and Congressman Steny Hoyer's Whip Leadership Office. Since April 2015 he's been Special Assistant to Joseline Pena-Melnyk. 

Ashanti attends Howard University studying Political Science.
